Shizukana
Shizukana
Shizukana (静かな) is a Japanese word meaning quiet, silent, calm, or peaceful. It describes a state of being.
The Japanese Sumi ink is some of the most unique ink I have used in this painting to indulge myself in the art of Sumi-e. The challenge was to create a peaceful painting while maintaining the respect and authenticity of the Japanese culture when it comes to the execution of this art type. Sumi-e is the Japanese art of black/white ink painting, emphasizing minimalism, spontaneity, and Zen philosophy, where artists use brush, ink, and paper to capture the "spirit". Here I did my version using the inspiration from the art style.
Materials used: Sumi white matte ink and white/black acrylic on canvas
